Pygmy Perch are a Western Australian native fish suitable for outdoor ponds. They are great for frog ponds and they love eating mosquito larvae. They are a small fish growing to a maximum of 8cm. Store pick up Only!
Scientific Name: Nannoperca vittata
Size: Maximum 8cm
Distribution: south-west Western Australia.
Reproduction: Pygmy Perch spawn from July to November, sometimes extending through to February. They can produce twelve to fifteen eggs over a three hour period. The eggs are adhesive, which allows them to cling to any nearby aquatic plants, rocks or debris. During this time the females can develop a blue tinge on their sides and the males fins can grow darker and their sides can develop an orange tinge.
Feeding: Pygmy Perch are carnivores and will eat any insects or larvae in the pond. They are excellent for eating Mosquito larvae in frog ponds. They can also be feed frozen foods and will eat any of the smaller dry foods (Goldfish Flakes).
