One of the major factors which determine good water quality id pH, which is the measure of acidity/alkalinity in your water. Neutral water has a pH of 7, acid water has a pH between 0 - 6.9 and alkaline water has a pH between 7.1 - 14.
Why does the pH level change?
Changes in pH can be caused by chemical reactions and the accumulation of substances in the aquarium/pond. Some examples are:
- Calcium and Magnesium compounds like shells and corals can cause alkalinity (rising of pH).
- The build up of waste from fish and plants can cause acidity (lowering of pH) if there are not enough good bacteria to break down this waste (generally in newly established aquariums/ponds).
- Carbon dioxide, which can increase due to over crowding or inadequate water circulation and aeration, is also a source of acid in the aquarium.
Aqua One pH Test Kit performs up to 60 test.
